FÜR SONNTAG DEN 12. APRIL 2020 UM 20 UHR!

Choose ONE of the prompts below. Write a 75-100-word composition with an appropriate title and arranged in logical paragraphs if necessary. YOU YOURSELF must write this using the German you know, although you might need to consult an English/German dictionary (www.leo.org). However, DO NOT write in English and then put it through Google translate. (I will be able to figure that out.) The trick is to write what you know how to write, don’t write what you don’t know how to write, and keep things simple! Don’t forget to refer to the chapter 5 packet. It’s attached from last week.

1. It is the year 2120 and a backpack from the year 2020 has been found by archaeologists. What’s in it and what assumptions do 22nd century archaeologists make about 21st century students, schools and society based on what’s inside the backpack? Keep this in the present tense, since we don’t know past tense yet.

2. Advertise your favorite class or elective with a flier that is appropriate for posting around the school, or for a night when 6th grade parents are visiting the building. Be sure you write at least 75 words AND be sure to use complete sentences. Make this appealing. Use markers, paints and/crayon if you like and just e-mail me a CLEAR photo if you can’t send it any other way (like PDF). But it’s your German, not your artwork that will be graded.

3. Set up a real interview with someone at least 20 years older than you in which you discuss their year in school as a 7th grader. Prepare some questions in advance regarding such things as start and ending times, teachers (nice? mean? favorite? least favorite?), classes (hard? easy? interesting? boring? favorite? least favorite?), cafeteria food, dress code, friends, discipline, school rules, typical stuff in their backpack, sports and other extra-curricular activities, etc.

Enjoy the interview realizing this: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE ALL OF THE INFORMATION YOU GATHER since you don’t have the vocabulary to express all of it in German. But you should be able to get enough information to write 75 words in German. Don’t worry about writing in past tense. We don’t know how to do that yet. Keep everything in the present tense. REMEMBER: YOUR FINAL PRODUCT IS IN GERMAN, even though your interview probably will not be.

4. You just came back to 2020 from visiting your grandchild’s school in the year 2065 (s/he will be a 7th grader then). How is it different from Pin Oak? Don’t worry about future tense. We don’t know that yet. Stick with present tense.

5. Was ist besser: normale Schule oder Covid-Schule in deinem Hause? Erkläre (explain).
